During recent weeks, persistent south and southeast winds have helped push a blob of clear ocean water into the southern portions of the Upper Laguna Madre, including Yarbrough, Summer House, Rocky Slough and the remainder of the Kenedy Ranch Shoreline, all the way to Penascal Point. Because many spots in this general area provide shallow structures close to and immediately adjacent to deep, cool water, excellent summertime fishing generally proves possible here. All this bodes well for fishing in the coming hot months. Water to the north of these areas still shows mild to moderate taint from brown tide. As always, I will focus my efforts on the clear water most of the time. Best bite early has been on small topwaters, while bright and natural-looking soft plastics are working better once the day heats up.
