Over the last week or so, things have rounded into shape nicely around here in terms of improving potential for catching trophy trout. I caught a 32 inch 10 pounder last week, and my customers have caught some big ones recently too, including a 28 and 29. We've also had improving numbers of 25 to 28 inch fish in the mix. Best bite lately has been on sinking Fat Boys. Also some topwater bite, especially early in the mornings. We are using full-sized floating plugs mostly, Super Spooks and Skitterwalks. Reports of a bad case of brown tide are mostly exaggerated; though there is some brown tide in parts of the area, it's fishable in all but the windiest conditions. The SCB trout tournament held January 25 and 26 also revealed improving potential. Good numbers of 7+ pound trout were brought to the scales. Biggest was 8 1/4. And, according to reports, they came from various parts of the area, including from the brown-tide stained parts.
