So far this month, the fishing for big trout has remained steady, and the numbers are good. We are averaging about 2 fish over 25” per day of effort, with better than a one-to-one ratio of 7 pounders per day of effort. We've landed 3 trout in the 8-8 1/4 pound class, and one 9 1/4. Longest trout was a 32 incher caught the day of the full moon. We've had several others reaching or exceeding 29 inches.
Best catching has been in the colder weather, on sinking Corkys and FatBoys, or soft plastics rigged on sixteenth-ounce jigheads. During the warm spells, we are catching more trout and reds, up to 75 fish per day or more, but the size isn't as impressive.
Some days, the fish seem to prefer depths around waist-deep or deeper, but on others, we find them in knee to crotch-deep potholes and grass beds. Occasionally, they prefer sand and rocks.
I am pretty booked up in February, but still have plenty of open dates in March. The remainder of the winter looks to have incredible potential. Water quality is good to great throughout most of the area; predictably, so is the action. |
